SitecoreAI Readiness

The Essential 4-Step Checklist

If you’re already using Sitecore XM Cloud, you’re on the cloud-native foundation that makes SitecoreAI possible.

To help you prepare, we've outlined a simple, role-friendly checklist that ensures you can access, use, and get value from the new AI features.

Step 1: Confirm Access in the Sitecore Cloud Portal

Who this applies to: Org Admins, IT, Platform Owners

SitecoreAI capabilities are managed centrally through the Sitecore Cloud Portal.

What to do:

  • Log into the Sitecore Cloud Portal.
  • Check that your team members have the correct access to the Deploy app and the SitecoreAI (XM Cloud) application depending on their role.
  • Ensure your Organisation Admin/Owner is set up, this role is required to manage projects, environments, deployments, and team permissions.

Why this matters:
AI features won’t appear unless your project and environments are recognised within SitecoreAI. Access and permissions are the foundation.

Step 2: Ensure Your Developer Tools Are Up to Date

Who this applies to: Developers, Technical Leads, DevOps

SitecoreAI builds on the modern XM Cloud toolchain. To ensure your project can support the new AI-powered editing, generation, and agentic automation features, your development tools need to be on current versions.

What your team should update:
 Sitecore Content SDK

This is the modern successor to the legacy JSS SDK, designed for XM Cloud.

Your team should be using the Content SDK v1.x, which is now the stable, recommended framework for:

  • Component rendering
  • Fetching content from Experience Edge
  • Integrating with the new visual editor
  • Supporting analytics and future AI-driven personalisation

Why it matters:
JSS-based SDKs work, but the newest AI-first enhancements especially inside the visual editor expect Content SDK compatibility.

Sitecore Content Serialisation (SCS)

Ensure your project is using SCS for templates, renderings, data items, and components.

Why it matters:
SitecoreAI environments rely on SCS to keep environments aligned. If templates or renderings aren’t serialised properly, AI edit experiences may not behave as expected.

Review front-end compatibility

If you’re using Next.js, React, or Vercel hosting, confirm your rendering host is aligned with:

  • Latest Next.js LTS versions
  • Modern build pipelines that support XM Cloud deployments

Why it matters:
The new editing experiences, UI enhancements, and agentic workflows need a front-end that can interact cleanly with XM Cloud’s headless APIs.

Step 3: Validate Your Project & Environment Setup

Who this applies to: Developers, DevOps, Platform Owners

SitecoreAI builds on XM Cloud’s SaaS deployment model.

What to check:

  • Your project and environments (Production, Staging, etc.) appear inside the Deploy app.
  • Your repository size meets SaaS deployment limits
  • Your content is correctly published and delivered through Experience Edge, as this is the headless delivery layer used.

Why this matters:
Healthy environments ensure the AI layer can read content, generate insights, and support agentic workflows without errors.

Step 4: Optimise Your Content Structure for AI

Who this applies to: Content Authors, UX Leads, Marketing Teams

SitecoreAI doesn’t require major rebuilds but structured content makes AI output smarter and more consistent.

Best-practice checklist:

  • Clear and descriptive field names (e.g., HeroHeadline, not Text1).
  • Consistent templates for key content types (blogs, products, landing pages).
  • Up-to-date content published to Experience Edge.
  • Clean taxonomies (tags, categories, metadata).

Why this matters:
Structured content allows AI to produce better suggestions, more accurate content generation and cleaner automation in Agentic Studio.

You’re Ready for SitecoreAI

With these steps complete, your team ( from content authors to developers) will be ready to adopt the next generation of AI-powered content creation, editing, and experience delivery inside SitecoreAI.
