Client Introduction
 In 1986, Dick Smith established the quarterly journal Australian Geographic as a way of showing Australia in a positive light and inspiring young people to share in the great adventure of being Australian. Every issue of the 128-page journal presents a positive view of Australia, as seen through the eyes of our very best writers, photographers and artists.
Project Overview
Developed in collaboration with our strategic partners Velvet Onion, Switch I.T. was approached to develop a comprehensive Content Management System (CMS) for Australian Geographic. On top of this, Switch I.T. also integrated all of the web site templates (supplied by Velvet Onion) with the CMS.
The completed system now allows Australian Geographic to maintain the following areas of the web site in-house:
- Online Features and Journals
Staff can now duplicate the main articles from the magazine on the web site. This includes uploading content in an intuitive WYSIWYG window, multiple images and the ability to split the article into multiple sections and pages.
- Australian Geographic Projects
The CMS allows staff to highlight any important community projects it's readers might be interested, including images, editorial and links to find out more info.
- Newsletter
Staff now have the ability to move the bi-monthly Newsletter onto the web site with a simple copy and paste. The CMS automatically cleans all the extraneous content from Microsoft Word and adds the content to the site formatted and consistent with the design.
- News, Events and Media Releases
Staff can now easily publish all Australian Geographic related News, Events and Media Releases to the web site in seconds by completing a simple online form.
- Employment Opportunities
Whenever a position becomes available at the magazine, staff can post employment opportunities on the web site with all the required information.
The scalability of Switch I.T.'s Content Management Solutions provided a platform for a seamless, cost effective integration with the supplied HTML templates. This project highlights Switch I.T.'s ability to work effectively with our strategic partners in develop effective solutions for our clients.
