Client Introduction

The Sutherland Shire Hub for Economic Development (SSHED) is a new $2.4M business accelerator designed to support small businesses planning to grow. The aim is to fast track the pace of business growth and increase the possibility of success through workshops, networking, mentoring and coaching. In September 2003, Switch I.T. was accepted as the inaugural tenant of this exciting initiative.


Project Overview

The cornerstone of the SSHED is the concept of increasing the likelihood of business success through networking and communication between tenants. This formed the core of a brief to Switch I.T. to facilitate these requirements using technology.

The result was a comprehensive Intranet/Extranet solution allowing SSHED staff, tenants and other stakeholders to communicate safely and securely via a web browser. The new SHHED Intranet features:

  • Resource Booking Facilities
    Users can easily book internal resources such as the conference room, digital projector or electronic whiteboards via the intuitive, calendar business resource booking facility.
  • Contact Database
    The searchable contacts database makes finding the contact details for another tenant or SSHED staff member so easy.
  • Document Management System (DMS)
    SSHED staff can easily post documents to the categorised DMS by a sophisticated administration system.
  • Events with SMS Reminders
    Automated email and SMS reminder functionality was integrated into the event management system ensuring all staff and tenants are informed about upcoming events no matter where they are.
  • Message Board
    The searchable messageboard allows anyone to post news, questions or advice for other SSHED tenants.
  • I.T. Requests
    SSHED staff and tenants can now post any I.T. requests to the internal I.T. staff via the Intranet. A different level of access was created for I.T. staff to view and update all requests within via the same interface.

The entire Intranet solution was built under Switch I.T.'s SwitchBack Content Management System technology. Administrative staff can maintain all content on the Intranet in-house with only five minutes of training required.
